- Kuris Raits lives and carves on the Little Slocan River in the beautiful Slocan Valley of British Columbia. He has enjoyed carving for twenty plus years; carving thousands of birds of well over one hundred species. All his birds are individually handcarved and detailed and painted in lifelike colours. I have fond memories of our walks home from school in Marion and our long talks.
My wife Laurie and I love to watch birds and this spring we managed to see 30 speicies of warblers. We love your carvings and find it amazing that you have painted your carvings so their color is identical to the bird's actual color. Also posing them in their natural setting for pictures is perfect.
